Arid conditions and almonds:
Low rainfall over the summer months in 2007 has badly affected almond trees in the
Datca area. Local people are anxious to prevent their trees withering but say there is insufficient water to irrigate them. Fig trees, on the other hand, require no watering, so long as they are hoed several times a year. For this reason, some farmers are thinking of returning to fig cultivation.
