Almonds of SINDI Village, DATCA

When the almonds began to ripen three busy days were spent in the village of Sındı on 25-27 July collecting samples of the numerous local varieties. Photographs were taken of each variety and genetic material collected. It was found that 34 local varieties are still grown in the village, not counting populations of unnamed landraces.

The best The best tasting of these are the thin-shelled types. The team watched the work of shaking the ripe almonds from the trees and then shelling, a task in which everyone in the village, from children to old people, participated.
